Empowering Futures: School Visits for CRESS-Sponsored Students in West Nile March 2025
Ahead of the 2025 planting season, CRESS Africa Foundation (CAF), through its Self-Reliant and Resilient Livelihood Project, successfully conducted enterprise selection meetings across Mijale, Rhino Camp, and Imvepi settlements.
From March 6–15, over 766 Community Savings and Credit Group (CSCG) members—90% of whom are women—actively participated in a participatory enterprise selection process to identify location-specific, market-driven, and climate-resilient crop ventures. Using tools like seasonal calendars, market mapping, and facilitated group discussions, participants selected enterprises best suited to their skills, land availability, and market access.
Key outcomes include:
Selection of high-demand crops such as maize, cassava, groundnuts, and simsim, tailored to each location's conditions.
28 CSCGs (30 members each) committed to vegetable cultivation (tomatoes, onions, kale) to improve nutrition and income.
Enhanced ownership and adoption of sustainable practices like Farming as a Business (FAAB), acquisition of 1/4 of an acre by farmers and the Farmer-to-Farmer (F2F) approach.
These efforts are not just about growing crops—they’re about growing hope, resilience, and opportunity in some of Uganda’s most vulnerable communities.
We thank our partners and donors whose support makes these transformative grassroots actions possible.
Together, we are sowing seeds of self-reliance and dignity.
