Reaching Refugee Children with the Gospel of Jesus Christ through Five-Day Clubs
From 18th–22nd May 2026, staff from CRESS Africa Foundation had the privilege of participating in the School Safeguarding Training organized by CRANE in Mukono District, Uganda. The training brought together representatives from schools, churches, and organizations across the country committed to promoting child protection and safe learning environments.
CRESS Africa Foundation was represented by:
• Murye Scopas – Education & Discipleship Officer
• Amat Moses – HR & Administration
The training focused on strengthening safeguarding knowledge and practical skills in:
Child protection principles
Prevention of abuse and exploitation
Reporting and referral mechanisms
Safe recruitment and staff conduct
Safeguarding policies and procedures
Creating safe environments for children in schools, churches, and communities
One of the most impactful lessons from the training was the reminder that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. Children need safe spaces where they can confidently report concerns, and organizations must intentionally establish systems that prioritize dignity, accountability, protection, and care.
Through case studies, practical discussions, and collaborative learning, participants explored different forms of abuse, including physical, emotional, sexual, neglect, exploitation, and online abuse, while also strengthening skills in prevention and response mechanisms.
As an organization working with children, refugee communities, schools, churches, and vulnerable populations, this training was highly relevant to the mission of CRESS Africa Foundation. The knowledge gained will help strengthen:
• Child protection during evangelism and discipleship activities
• Staff compliance with safeguarding standards
• Safer community outreach programs
• Prevention and response to abuse cases
• Organizational safeguarding policy implementation
Moving forward, we are committed to:
Strengthening safeguarding systems across all programs
Conducting regular safeguarding orientations for staff and volunteers
Promoting child-friendly reporting mechanisms
Increasing community awareness on child protection
Ensuring accountability and safe ministry practices
Protecting children is a collective responsibility, and together we can create environments where every child is safe, valued, heard, and empowered to thrive.
